Dr. Ken Markel is our Pediatric Specialist. His 40+ years career encompasses each and every aspect of dentistry for children and children with special needs.

His concepts concerning health and patient education are the founding principles of the West Side Family Dental Group.

Dr. Ken says “happy and healthy children, along with their families, are our greatest professional joy”.

Dr. From has been a General and Cosmetic dentist for over 30 years. He was raised in Brighton Beeach, Brooklyn, and attended Abraham Lincoln High School and Brooklyn College. He graduated for NYU College of Dentistry in 1984, has owned his own practice, and gone on to work at several high end practices in the city. 

Working with apprehensive patients is one of his specialties, and it gives him great joy and satisfaction to make people comfortable in his care.

He has two older boys who are off on their own, and a younger daughter who is attending college.

His hobbies are cycling, music, working out, cooking and hiking.

Dr. Jae Kim was born in Seoul, Korea. When he was 10 years old, he moved to Los Angeles, CA, where he grew up. After high school, he attended University of Toronto in Canada, where he studied Engineering Science and specialized in Biomedical Engineering. Between college and dental school, he worked at an engineering firm designing medical devices for about two years. He then decided to go back to school for a Masters Degree in Biomedical Engineering. 

Dr. Kim then moved to New York City where he attended the New York University College of Dentistry and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS). He was in top 1% throughout 4 years of dental school and was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon (OKU) Dental Honor Society. He loved to design smiles that he trained for an additional three years to receive his Masters of Science degree in orthodontics at University of Southern California in Los Angeles.                         

After the residency, he voluntarily went through hundreds of additional hours of preparation to demonstrate his judgement, skills and knowledge required for providing the highest level of patient care and become ABO Board Certified orthodontist. Furthermore, Dr. Kim is an active member in the American Association of Orthodontics, the American Dental Association, and various study clubs.

When Dr. Kim is not working as a board certified orthodontist, he likes to exercise, play sports and spend time with his family and friend

 
Dr. Rebecca Goldman hails from Brooklyn, New York. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from her hometown school, Brooklyn College. She crossed the river to attend New York University’s College of Dentistry. There she received her Doctorate of Dental Surgery, graduating in the top 4% of her class, recognized via induction into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon honor society. To further her skills Dr. Goldman completed a 3-year post-graduate residency in Advanced Periodontics and Dental Implants at New York University’s College of Dentistry. During her residency, she received world-class training in the treatment of complex cases, patients with gum disease, implant placement and full mouth rehabilitation. Dr. Goldman has a true passion for dentistry and is committed to providing exceptional dental care; her top priority is improving the lives of her patients. During her free time, Dr. Goldman enjoys cooking, and spending time with her family and friends. She is a Board-Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry. 

Dr. Sari Johnston, DDS, MSc, BSc (H), is a highly accomplished oral and maxillofacial surgeon with an extensive educational background. She completed her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) at the University of Western Ontario and a Master of Science in Clinical Anatomy. Dr. Johnston pursued an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at Mount Sinai Beth Israel, New York, with rotations at various prestigious hospitals. Her commitment to education is evident through her experience as a Course Director, Lead Teaching Assistant, and guest lecturer, where she has educated students on advanced anatomy and dental topics. Additionally, she has a strong research background, having worked on projects related to sleep apnea surgery and periodontal disease education. Dr. Johnston is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. In her free time, Dr. Johnston likes to spend time with her husband, daughter and 3 cats.

 
Dr. Amanda Dewundara finds a lot of joy in working with children. Her warm and nurturing demeanor makes visits to the dentist educational and fun. She believes that each child is important, and feels it is a privilege to serve your family.

Amanda graduated on the Dean’s List at the University of Pennsylvania. She then pursued research at Harvard University, where she worked in underserved communities to better understand the relationship of diet and obesity to dental caries.

She earned her Doctorate of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) and Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) from Columbia University. She went on to complete her pediatric specialty training at Montefiore in the Bronx, NY. Dr. Amanda has experience treating all children including special needs and medical compromised.

Dr. Amanda is a Board Certified Pediatric Dentist. She holds active memberships to the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and the New York State Dental Association.

In her free time, Amanda loves to sing, dance, and practice yoga. She loves to sing with her patients when appropriate. She is also serious about food – and delights in NYC hole-in-the-walls.

Dr. Doan, originally from Colorado, holds a Bachelor of Arts in Integrative Physiology from the University of Colorado Boulder. She furthered her education in New York, obtaining her Doctorate of Dental Surgery from NYU College of Dentistry, followed by a General Practice Residency at Mount Sinai Hospital. Her experience spans a wide range of dental procedures, including oral surgery, emergency care, restorative, and cosmetic dentistry.

She values clear communication, taking the time to explain treatments and ensure that her patients are well-informed and comfortable with their care. Dr. Doan is dedicated to working with her patients as partners in their dental health.

Outside the clinic, she enjoys exploring museums, sampling cuisine from new restaurants, and experiencing the diverse offerings of Manhattan. Dr. Doan is committed to continuous education and is an active member of the Academy of General Dentistry and the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.

Dr. Doan is focused on providing a positive and straightforward dental experience for all her patients.
